Light drawing is a 150+ year old photographic process that does not use a camera. Instead, light sensitive chemicals are painted onto watercolor paper under the cover of darkness. Once the paper is dry, it is brought out into the natural sunlight and specimens are arranged on top. After a period of time, the sunshine, paper, and pigments create a chemical reaction, leaving a shadow of the specimen on the paper. Rinne has been making light drawings for the last 16 years, using speciments grown in her own garden. Each light drawing is unique and impossible to replicate, an alchemistic moment captured forever on paper, and Rinne enjoys making them for their tactile and unpredictable nature that preserves her garden on paper.
